Abstract:
Exothermic mold powder for continuous casting comprising: 20 ∩ 90 wt% of basic material; 0 ∩ 10 wt% of material of siliceous material containing 50 wt% or more of SiO2; Ø ∩ 20 wt% of flux material; 2 ∩ 30 wt% of one or more kinds of material selected from a group consisting of alkaline metal carbonate, hydrogen carbonate, and nitrate as exothermic materials; and, as reducing agent, 3 ∩ 30 wt% of one or more kinds of material selected from a group consisting of carbon, silicon, and silicon alloy. By controlling the kind and quantity of reducing agent, speed of oxidation and heat generation can be controlled and a cast piece less susceptible to cementation and containing less foreign substances as well as pin holes can be obtained.
Abstract:
This invention is characterized by providing a plurality of steps for the molten steel flowing hole of the immersion nozzle for continuous casting, in which inner diameters d1, d2, and d3 of said molten steel flowing hole at stepped parts are in such relations that d1>d2>d, or d1>d2>d3>d, where d is the main inner diameter, and the inner diameter d2 or d3 at the part immediately above the molten steel discharge opening is such that (d + 10 mm » d2 or d3), and the material of the inner peripheral wall near the molten steel discharge opening is desirably boron-nitride-carbon. Such a composition as above is very effective in preventing deposit and adhesion of Al2O3 and is capable of improving the life of nozzle 50% over that of the conventional one.
Abstract:
This invention relates to a gas blowing plate brick or nozzle brick for a molten metal ejector, characterized in that the plate brick or nozzle brick is divided into at least two segments in the horizontal direction with a plurality of small-diameter pipes arranged fixedly in a sealed state in the dividing surfaces. Each brick is capable of preventing the leakage of a gas blown into the above-mentioned kind of apparatus, and carrying out a stable casting operation, and renders it unnecessary to carry out troublesome, expensive additional steps, such as a brick cutting step, a brick boring step and a brick connecting step.
Abstract:
This invention relates to an apparatus for inspecting the inside of a hot furnace. In an apparatus for inspecting the inside of a hot furnace provided with a camera (1) placed in a case (2) whose inner periphery is cooled by cooling water and to the inside of which cooling air is blown, the present invention disposes sequentially quartz glass (6), heat-ray reflecting glass (7), heat-ray absorption glass (8) and a heat-ray transmitting mirror (9) in the optical path of the rays of light coming from the front surface of the case (2) to the camera (1) and disposes also an illumination lamp (13) on the front surface of the case (2) so as to make remote-control of brightness. In this manner, the inside of the camera case (2) is kept below 50°C, damage to the camera (1) by the heat of radiation from the glass surface is prevented and remote control of brightness of the illumination lamp (13) is made so that the inspection inside the hot furnace can be made at a temperature ranging from normal temperature to 1,200°C.

Abstract:
A refractory block which has a construction wherein the outer peripheral surface of a unitary assembly of plate bricks and an immersion nozzle is directly encompassed by a unitary metal case. It is also possible to employ a construction wherein plate bricks stored in a metal case are bonded to the dowel portions of the immersion nozzle stored in a separate cylindrical metal case through mortar and the metal cases are welded integrally to each other, a construction wherein a unitary refractory block of the plate bricks and the immersion nozzle is encompassed by a unitary metal case, or a construction wherein the unitary refractory block is fitted to a unitary metal case through an amorphous refractory. The unitary refractory block may be a combination of different kinds of refractories, and it is further possible to employ a construction wherein the plate bricks and the immersion nozzle are fitted into a unitary metal case with porous bricks sandwiched between the plate bricks and the immersion nozzle, and feed/discharge pipes are so disposed in the porous bricks as to penetrate through the metal case.
Abstract:
A process for producing silica brick by firing silica stone mainly comprising silica and containing 0.2 to 5 wt % of solidified molten soda lime silicate added thereto, whereby silica brick with a lowered content of residual quartz can be produced readily and efficiently even by using a silica stone which difficultly causes the transformation of quartz. The process comprises crushing silica stone, adding thereto solidified molten soda lime silicate and a binder, molding the mixture, and firing the molding at 1350 to 1500 °C to cause a reaction between the silicate and the silica in the silica stone to thereby cause rapid transformation of the silica into cristobalite and tridymite.
Abstract:
An unshaped alumina spinel refractory excellent in spalling, corrosion and slag resistances, which comprises an alumina spinel clinker having a molar ratio of MgO to Al2O3 of 0.14:1.86 to 0.6:1.4, optionally together with spinel clinker with an approximately theoretical composition based on the alumina spinel clinker, and the balance of sintered alumina and alumina cement. It is possible to suppress the extension of crack by adding crushed alumina particles with a particle size of 10 to 50 mm to the refractory.
