Abstract:
The present invention relates to disk data storage media including magnetic, magneto-optical and optical media such as CD-ROM, CD-RW, DVD, DVD-RAM, Mini-disks and other disk media. It provides for new disk media featuring a data storage surface on the edge of the disk. This novel edge track data surface may be marked, inscribed or recorded during manufacture or this new data surface may be created and utilized later. In addition, methods to manufacture, exploit and convert conventional disk media to that having an edge track data surface are taught herein.
Abstract:
A system for programming the playback of recorded items (17) on a recording substrate (1). It is the purpose of the invention to facilitate simple playback programming for selected titles on a recording substrate, e.g. a CD. According to the invention, the recording substrate (1) itself has a scannable region (2) with at least one locally predetermined, manually markable position (3) and a given recorded item is allocated to the predetermined position. Playback programming for recording substrates, especially CD and MOD. (Fig. 1a)
Abstract:
Timing information (400, 402) from the label side (216) of an optical disc (218) is used to generate a drive current profile (242). The drive current profile (242) can be applied to a spindle motor (220) in order to maintain a rotational speed of the optical disc (218) in the absence of the timing information (400, 402).
Abstract:
A reference pattern (300, 700) on the non-data side (or label side) (146) of an optical data storage disc (126) enables optical disc devices (102) to register a position of a laser (118, 308) to an absolute radial location on the disc's non-data side (146). The absolute radial location serves as a reference track to which that all radial positioning can be referenced.
Abstract:
A high-density optical disc such as a high density-digital versatile disc (HD-DVD) or Blu-ray disc, and a method for reproducing or recording data of the high-density optical disc. The high-density optical disc includes a lead-in area, a data area and a lead-out area. The lead-in area has major information. A minimum mark or space length of the major information recorded in the lead-in area is longer than that of data recorded in the data area. The major information of the lead-in area is copied to the lead-out area. On the basis of the data reproduction or recording method, an optical disc device can correctly read and confirm the major information from the high-density optical disc, minimize the interference between a mark and space in high-density recording data, reduce the effects of scratches or dust on the disc, and efficiently prevent an erroneous data reproduction or recording operation.
