Abstract:
A nozzle (1) is described for delivering a flow of liquid metal from a metallurgical vessel. In combination with inert gas, the nozzle can shield the flow of liquid metal from oxygen and, additionally, can be used to purge liquid metal residing in the metallurgical vessel. The nozzle includes a substantially gas-impermeable liner (9) surrounded by a permeable composition (10). The gas-impermeable liner may comprise a resin-bonded material, and the permeable liner is preferably a carbon-bonded or castable refractory. A metal housing (14) may surround the nozzle.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a fireproof material based on ZrO2-ZrB2-C having an improved corrosion resistance and containing 3 to 25 wt. % of C, 20 to 90 wt. % of ZrB2, 5 to 60 wt. % of stabilized ZrO2, and 0.2 to 10 wt. % of a material selected from the group consisting of Al, Mg, their oxides, their hydroxides or mixtures of these materials.
Abstract:
A refractory shape is described for transferring molten metal in a continuous casting operation. The shape includes an inner surface made from an unfired composition comprising a calcium rich grain, a hydration-resistant grain, 6-28 wt.% carbon, and a binder. The unfired composition may also include an antioxidant and silica. The inner surface is described as resistant to spalling and alumina deposition.
Abstract:
The invention concerns a device for low pressure metal casting, comprising at least a casting furnace (10) provided with at least a filling chamber (18) capable of being refilled and at least a rising pipe (12) which can, on its terminal side, be successively communicated, via a casting nozzle (13), with sand moulding frames (14) having cavities (15). The invention is characterised in that the casting nozzle (13), which is made of refractory material, comprises an interchangeable opening (20) which, preferably, is made of electrographite.
Abstract:
A nozzle for continuous casting of steel which excels in resistances to both clogging and melting loss, characterized in that the inner hole and/or the part in contact with molten steel of the nozzle for continuous casting of steel are formed of a refractory material consisting of spinel or spinel and periclase as mineral phase.
Abstract:
The invention concerns an exchangeable nozzle for a nozzle changer system for billet casting, a method for manufacturing such a nozzle, a nozzle changer system comprising such a nozzle and a tundish comprising such a nozzle changer system.
