Abstract: A tip for a bone anchor having cutting edges that converge at an end of the body to form a point and thus define a series of cutting faces. The cutting faces can be planar or curved, and can also be multi-faceted. The tip may include a broach that extends parallel or at an angle relative to tip. The broach may be partially or fully interrupted by one of the cutting faces. The tip is designed to be coupled to any variety of bone anchor types, including those with mechanical retention structures, that change shape in response to insertion into a bone, or that have threads for advancing the anchor into a bone. The anchor and the body may be integrally formed together, and the anchor and the body may be formed from different materials.

Abstract: The present invention relates to an implantable bone elongation device including an inner rod defining an internal cavity housing a rotational actuator having an output shaft connected to a lead screw disposed at the end of the inner rod and in threaded engagement with a threaded inner surface of an outer rod. Rotation of the lead screw converts rotation motion into linear motion resulting in telescopic movement of the outer rod relative to the inner rod. Rotational motion is converted into linear motion by components disposed in a parallel configuration thereby minimizing the overall length of the bone elongating device while maintaining a maximum stroke length. In various embodiments, additional components, such as electronic circuit boards, electrical power supply or battery power source, may be housed within the internal cavity formed by the inner rod.

Abstract: A bone fixation system includes a fixation plate formed of a fiber reinforced polymer composite material with a plurality of apertures configured to receive screws for fracture fixation. An malleable metallic insert is disposed within each aperture. The inserts may be sized to accept locking or non-locking screws over a range of angles. The inserts may protrude through the plate on the bone side, providing clearance between the composite plate and the bone. The apertures and inserts may have a generally cylindrical or obround shape. In embodiments, the inserts are shaped complementary to the apertures in which they are disposed.

The tensioning tool also includes a cutting blade (1554) that is configured to remove an excess portion of a band. The tensioning tool has a tension limit that is the maximum tension that can be applied to a band, and the tensioning tool is configured to apply tension to the band until the tension limit has been reached. The tensioning tool is configured to actuate the cutting blade to cut the band upon at least one of the tension limit being reached or upon a user command.
