Abstract:
An address learning technique in a data communication network (100). A packet (300) may be received by the network system when the ingress equipment does not yet have information to look up the appropriate path for the packet based upon its destination media access control address. The packet (300) may then be broadcast or multicast to all possible or probable destinations for the packet. Each such destination adds an entry to its look up table (612) using the source MAC address and an identification of the path by which it received the packet.

Abstract:
Disclosed relates to an asymmetric digital subscriber line (ADSL) access multiplexer connected direct to existing Ethernet and an ADSL network system using ASDL access multiplexer. The ADSL network system excludes a conventional network access server (NAS) and connects the ADSL access multiplexer direct to the Ethernet, thus decentralizing the processes for authentication, imposition of charge and traffic to a corresponding local network. Accordingly, the problem of traffic centralization raised by the conventional NAS is solved readily. Besides, the ADSL access multiplexer according to the invention further includes a remote authentication dial-in user service (RADIUS) client program, whereby the processes for authentication and imposition of charge are made very easily.
Abstract:
A communication system. The system includes an MPLS network (12) and a modified ATM network (14) connected to the MPLS network (12) on which MPLS packets can travel. A switch (16) for switching MPLS packets and ATM cells in a network. The switch includes input ports (23) for receiving MPLS packets and ATM cells from the network. Each MPLS packet has a first label for directing the packet to a desired switch and a second label for directing the packet to a desired output port (24) in the switch. The system includes output ports for sending MPLS packets and ATM cells to the network. The system includes a mechanism for reviewing the second label while maintaining the first label with the packet. The reviewing mechanism is connected to the input ports and the output ports.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a novel private extension unit arrangement and the migration solutions of existing devices. Communications links are produced by means of a transport network. Control is carried out in a centralised manner by means of a central control device (ZE2) which is connected to the decentralised network devices (DZ1, DZ10, DZ20) and the interface modules (DZ12, DZ237) via a two-step connection. The control messages are collected and distributed in a decentralised manner. The control connection from a decentralised device respectively to the central control device (ZE2) is provided via an ATM network or an ethernet connection.
Abstract:
In prior art, the provision of back-up circuits for ATM cells in ring-type structures is efficiently controlled using linear structures. According to the invention, this function is extended to ring-type MPLS network architectures as follows: linear MPLS structures are formed into a ring-type MPLS structure and two unidirectional MPLS connections which respectively connect the same switching devices and run in opposite directions are logically associated to one another, whereby the operating link and the back-up link are routed via different physical paths.
Abstract:
An Ethernet-type edge switch interfaces a cell-based network which transports multimedia information, i.e., textual graphical, image, video, voice and audio. The Ethernet-type switch possesses a multi-processor architecture for providing quality of service and explicit rate flow control with resource management (RM) cell priority.
Abstract:
An information distribution system (10) with an architecture that facilitates efficient distribution of a plurality of information asset data to a plurality of different requesting users (12) substantially simultaneously. Fundamental components of the system include a plurality of mass storage devices (14) that store information assets, mass storage device interface units (16), a switching unit (20), a centralized control unit (26) and a gateway to the users. Information transfer between various components of the system is accomplished through a plurality of communication channels according to a circuit switching protocol. According to one embodiment of the invention, a plurality of communication channels are provided between the mass storage devices (14) and the switching unit (20) such that information asset data may be transferred, in substantially a single format and according to substantially a single protocol, from the mass storage devices (14) directly through the switch (20) and to the requesting user (12).
Abstract:
In prior art, the provision of an equivalent circuit for ATM cells is efficiently controlled using linear structures. According to the invention, in order to also transmit these structures to ring-type architectures, a ring-type structure is configured from linear structures as follows: additional linear structures are integrated into the transmission section of a linear structure and the switching devices of the original linear structure are combined. In addition, a large number of equivalent circuits share a common reserved transmission capacity.
