Abstract: A method for producing a sub-unit of a smoking article which involves applying a connecting strip (2) having at least one weakened zone (20) onto the outer surface of a tubular segment (1) in such a way that the connecting strip (2) has a first portion (2a), superposed on the tubular segment (1) to cover a first angular portion of the outer surface of the tubular segment (1), leaving uncovered a second angular portion of the outer surface of the tubular segment (1), and at least one second portion (2b), axially protruding from a respective end of the tubular segment (1), with the weakened zone (20) being interposed between the first portion (2a) and the second portion (2b). The second portion (2b) of the connecting strip (2) is then folded transversely to the first portion (2a), at the said weakened zone (20), to form a closing wall which at least partly closes the end opening of the tubular segment (1).
