Abstract:
The invention relates to novel biologically active compounds of fungi of the species Ganoderma pfeifferi DMS 13239, to methods of preparing same and to their use. From the fruit-body and mycelium of Ganoderma pfeifferi DMS 13239 extracts having an antimicrobial action and suitable as preservatives, for pharmaceutical and cosmetic preparations, as antiinfective agents and in fish-farming can be obtained. Antimicrobial active substances called ganomycines which are effective against multi-resistant germs are isolated from the extracts. The total synthesis of the ganomycines and their derivatization permits their use as antibiotics.
Abstract:
An energy-converting compound which has a function to absorb one or more of various types of energy such as mechanical energy, heat energy, optical energy and electric energy and to convert it to another one. The energy-converting compound can be used in a wide variety of applications such as a damping material, a noise absorbing material, a shock absorber, an electromagnetic wave absorbing material, a vibration isolator, a piezoelectric material, a viscous fluid and an electrode material, and is characterized in that a component constituting a material having energy conversion function and an active component increasing a dipole moment of the material are bonded by dipole interaction.
Abstract:
The invention relates to an improved method for producing ester plasticizers by reacting di- or polycarboxylic acids or their anhydrides with alcohols in the presence of metal catalysts.
Abstract:
A method of making trialkyl tricarboxylates includes melting a phenyl tricarboxylic acid or anhydride thereof to provide a molten phenyl tricarboxylic acid or anhydride thereof; combining the molten phenyl tricarboxylic acid or anhydride thereof and greater than 3.0 molar equivalents of a C 4-18 alkyl alcohol, for example, greater than 3.5 molar equivalents of a C 4-18 alkyl alcohol, based on the total moles of phenyl tricarboxylic acid or an anhydride thereof, to provide a melt mixture; adding 0.05 mol% to 0.20 mol% of a titanium tetraalkoxide catalyst, based on the total moles of phenyl tricarboxylic acid or anhydride thereof, to the melt mixture to form a reaction mixture; reacting the phenyl tricarboxylic acid or anhydride thereof and the C 4-18 alkyl alcohol in the reaction mixture to form a product mixture having an acid value equal to or less than 0.5, as determined according to ASTM D1045, and including the trialkyl tricarboxylate; and isolating the trialkyl tricarboxylate from the product mixture.

Abstract:
Disclosed is a method for improving the fuel economy of a heavy duty diesel engine which produces a heavily sooted lubricating oil composition during the engine's normal operation. The method involves introducing lubricating the heavy duty diesel engine with a heavy duty diesel engine lubricating oil composition comprising (a) a major amount of an oil of lubricating viscosity; and (b) a minor effective amount of an ashless friction modifier comprising a reaction product of a C4 to about C75 fatty acid ester and a mono- or dialkanolamine.
