Abstract:
The present invention relates to a pet food composition comprising an antioxidant component. The antioxidant component can be derived from a decaffeination stream produced during the decaffeination process of coffee beans.
Abstract:
Kibble-type animal feeds and pet foods including a vegetable protein-based core matrix and a coating of a fat and at least one additive are described. The coating may include a probiotic enriched coating. Methods of forming the kibble-type animal feeds and pet foods are also described. Probiotic coating for a kibble showing acceptable stability and bioactivity are disclosed and methods for assessing the bioactivity of a probiotic in a food composition are also described.
Abstract:
An automated feeding station feeds an animal in a feeding event. An automated collection system, such as a urine collection system, fecal collection system, or combination urine/fecal collection system, collects and excrement from the animal in an excrement elimination event. The feeding event and excrement elimination events provide insights into the health of the animal.
Abstract:
Systems and methods for determining a consumer response. At least two attributes are obtained for a sample product, the at least two attributes are associated with a feeding experience of an animal are determined. A regression analysis is performed on one or more factor scores for the sample product derived from the at least two attributes. A consumer response of the feeding experience as a function of the at least two attributes is determined independently of the consumer. The at least two attributes are determined based on an assessment of a plurality of technical measures associated with the feeding experience of an animal. The technical measures may be selected from the group consisting of analytical components (AN), daily feeding patterns based on automatic feeding station (AFS), chemical sensory headspace aroma compounds (CHEM), human sensory descriptive panel (HUMAN), monadic feeding patterns (VIDEO), and preference assessment (PREF).
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a a composition comprising a sensitive ingredient; and where the sensitive ingredient has a chemical stability index of at least about 1.05, a Bioavailability Index of at least about 1.05 and a Horgan Indeces of less than about 0.80. Said composition is obtainable by a process comprising preparing a mixture of alkali metal alginate solution and sensitive ingredient, and coating with a chitosan.
Abstract:
The present invention is directed to a method for decreasing inflammation and stress in a mammal comprising; administration to a mammal a composition comprising a glucose antimetabolite; and wherein said composition comprises amounts of the glucose anti-metabolite sufficient to lower a level of a C-reactive protein in the blood of the mammal subsequent to administration of the glucose anti-metabolite.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a composition: comprising; a sensitive ingredient; and where the sensitive ingredient is within a protective coating comprising a chitosan matrix. Additionally, the present invention relates to methods of stabilizing a sensitive ingredient. More specifically to a stabilizing method that comprises the steps of: preparing a mixture of an alkali metal alginate; adding to said mixture a sensitive ingredient; creating a stream of said mixture comprising the sensitive ingredient; cutting said stream to form a sphere; dropping said sphere into a source of chitosan; forming a coated sphere of said sensitive ingredient within a protective coating comprising a chitosan alginate.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a a composition comprising a sensitive ingredient; and where the sensitive ingredient has a chemical stability index of at least about 1.05, a Bioavailability Index of at least about 1.05 and a Horgan Indeces of less than about 0.80.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a preservative system and method for the improvement and /or stabilization of perishable food compositions. More particularly, the present invention relates to a natural preservative for improving the shelf-stability of a pet composition.
Abstract:
According to the invention there is provided a strain of lactic acid bacteria of the species Bifidobacteria globosum obtainable by isolation from resected and washed canine gastrointestinal tract having a probiotic activity in animals. Methods of use and compositions comprising the Bifidobacteria globosum of the present invention are also provided.
