    Abstract: Techniques for improving enhanced cell identification (E-CID) positioning are provided. An example of a method for determining a location of a mobile device according to the disclosure includes generating a plurality of receive beams with a mobile device, receiving, with one or more of the plurality of receive beams, a radio beam transmitted from a base station, such that the radio beam includes a beam identification value, and determining a measurement quantity for the radio beam for each of the one or more of the plurality of receive beams.

    Abstract: Techniques for determining a position of a mobile device are provided. A method according to these techniques includes obtaining assistance data comprising information for cells associated with a plurality of wireless transmitters of a wireless communications network based on the coarse location of the mobile device, selecting a plurality of the cells from the assistance data, wherein selecting the plurality of cells includes identifying sets of colocated cells and selecting one cell from each of the colocated sets of cells; measuring signals from the plurality of cells to generate positioning signal measurements; and sending the positioning signal measurements to a location server. A colocated set of cells may include a narrowband cell and a non-narrowband cell, and the narrowband wireless cell may comprise a narrowband Internet of Things (NB-IoT) cell and a non-narrowband cell colocated with the NB-IoT cell at an Evolved Node B (eNodeB).

    Abstract: Methods and techniques are described for supporting location services for a user equipment (UE) in a Fifth Generation wireless network in which a base station, such as a gNB or ng-eNB, broadcasts a Positioning Reference Signal (PRS) in a plurality of different directions and at a plurality of different times. A PRS muting configuration is used in which PRS is muted using a time based and angle based pattern to prevent interference between beams transmitted by other base stations and/or to prevent interference between beams transmitted simultaneously by a single base station. The time based and angle based muting pattern, for example, may provide an indication for each direction in the plurality of different directions and for each time in the plurality of different times and as to whether the PRS is transmitted or muted by the base station.
