    Abstract: An ultrasound scanning technique for biological tissue examines the radio frequency signals derived from reflected ultrasonic energy to identify signal parameters indicative of particular tissue histology. Such identification is then used to produce a histological image of the biological tissue. The technique is particularly useful in the examination of blood vessels to identify different types of plaque within the vessel wall. Lipid plaques produce relatively low levels of reflection. Calcified plaques produce high levels of regular reflection. Fibrous plaques may be identified as a highly homogeneous thickened wall area that does not show the characteristics of a lipid plaque. A homogeneity value for the radio frequency signal is calculated for all areas not identified as lipid plaques or calcified plaques and then this homogeneity value is mapped to a colour that is displayed within the histological image.

    Abstract: The disclosure relates to a valve (20) for use with breathing assistance apparatus. The valve comprises: a valve body (25) defining first, second and third ports (21, 22, 23); a valve core (27) defining a ported chamber (40) rotatable about a valve axis (28) between: a first stable configuration in which the ported chamber provides fluid communication between the first port and the second port and isolates the third port from the first and second ports; and a second stable configuration in which the ported chamber provides fluid communication between the first port and the third port and isolates the second port from the first and third ports, wherein an outer surface (34) of the valve core is configured to engage with an inner surface (32) of the valve body to define a detent for resisting rotation of the valve core between the first stable configuration and the second stable configuration; and an actuator (30) configured to overcome the detent to rotate the valve core between the first and second stable configurations.

    Abstract: There are provided processes for verifying the performance of neural networks across a range of inputs. The neural network comprises nodes arranged in a plurality of layers, and a disclosed process comprises the steps of: obtaining data representing a trained neural network, a set of algebraic constraints on the output of each layer the network, and a range of inputs to the neural network over which the algebraic constraints are to be verified, such that the data defines a verification problem; determining, for each layer of the network, a semidefinite constraint from the algebraic constraints for that layer; determining a set of interlayer constraints which constrain outputs of one or more of the layers to corresponding inputs of one or more adjacent layers; applying a semidefinite programming relaxation subject to the semidefinite constraints and the interlayer constraints across the range of inputs; and based on the outcome of the semidefinite programming relaxation, determining whether the neural network is robust across the range of inputs.
