Abstract:
An infant-nursing platform includes a cushion adapted for supporting a baby while nursing. The cushion has a support surface. Weighing means are disposed within the cushion and operably coupled to the support surface to weigh the baby on the support surface of the cushion. A user interface device is operably coupled to the weighing means to obtain measurement information therefrom. The user interface device and produces an output in response to the measurement information obtained from the weighing means.
Abstract:
Abstract:
Methods and devices for providing a user of a mobile communications device with mobile voice-mediated search capability. The methods and devices involve receiving an utterance from a user of the mobile device, the utterance including a search request; using the speech recognition functionality to recognize that the utterance includes a search request; as a result of recognizing that the utterance includes a search request, establishing a wireless data connection to a remote server; sending a representation of the search request to the remote server over the wireless data connection; receiving search results that are responsive to the search request; and presenting the search results on the mobile device.
Abstract:
A method for the treatment of skin including the steps of determining the skin depth for energy absorption necessary for treatment; and generating a spot size for energy impinging on the skin to provide a desired amount of energy to the desired depth for treatment. In one embodiment the selected spot size has a small diameter. In another embodiment the spont diameter is narrower than the spacing between adjacent hairs on the skin. In another aspect the invention relates to an apparatus for the treatment of skin including a source of energy; and a means for selecting a spot size for energy from the source impinging on the skin to provide a desired amount of energy to a desired depth for treatment. In another embodiment the apparatus includes an interlock to prevent the laser from producing light unless the source in positioned to irradiate only the skin.
Abstract:
A method of sending a voice message via a mobile communication device, said method involving: receiving an utterance from a user of the mobile communication device; generating a non-text representation of the received utterance; inserting the non-text representation into a body of a text message; and sending the text message over a wireless messaging channel from the mobile communication device to a recipient's device.
Abstract:
According to certain aspects of the invention a mobile voice communication device includes a wireless transceiver circuit for transmitting and receiving auditory information and data, a processor, and a memory storing executable instructions which when executed on the processor causes the mobile voice communication device to provide a selectable personality associated with a user interface to a user of the mobile voice communication device. The executable instructions include implementing on the device a user interface that employs the different user prompts having the selectable personality, wherein each selectable personality of the different user prompts is defined and mapped to data stored in at least one database in the mobile voice communication device. The mobile voice communication device may include a decoder that recognizes a spoken user input and provides a corresponding recognized word, and a speech synthesizer that synthesizes a word corresponding to the recognized word. The device includes user-selectable personalities that are either transmitted wirelessly to the device, transmitted through a computer interface, or provided as memory cards to the device.
Abstract:
A method of processing speech in a noisy environment includes determining, upon a wake-up command, when the environment is too noisy to yield reliable recognition of a user's spoken words, and alerting the user that the environment is too noisy. Determining when the environment is too noisy includes calculating a ratio of signal to noise. The signal corresponds to of an amount of energy in the spoken utterance, and the noise corresponds to an amount of energy in the background noise. The method further includes comparing the signal to noise to a threshold.
Abstract:
A method is described for producing a pneumococcal capsular polysaccharide protein conjugate in which one or more activated pneumococcal polysaccharides of particular pneumococcal serotypes and carrier protein are separately lyophilized in the form of lyospheres of carrier protein and lyospheres of the one or more polysaccharides. A predetermined amount of carrier protein lyospheres and activated polysaccharide lyospheres are mixed together and the mixture reconstituted in an organic solvent to produce polysaccharide carrier protein conjugates. A plurality of conjugates, each comprising polysaccharides of a particular serotype, may be used to produce multivalent pneumococcal immunogenic compositions having a combination of conjugates for use in vaccines.
Abstract:
A method implemented on a mobile device that includes speech recognition functionality involves: receiving an utterance from a user of the mobile device, the utterance including a spoken search request; recognizing that the utterance includes a spoken search request; sending a representation of the spoken search request to a remote server over a wireless data connection; receiving search results over the wireless data connection that are responsive to the search request; storing the results on the mobile device; receiving a subsequent search request; performing a subsequent search responsive to the subsequent search request to generate subsequent search results, the subsequent search including searching the stored search results; and presenting the subsequent results on the mobile device. The method also involves indexing the stored results according to the user's search request, enhancing the device's ability to recognize frequently requested searches, and pre-loading the device with results corresponding to certain frequently requested searches.
Abstract:
Biomarker signatures were identified which can be used to diagnose or predict kidney or liver toxicity and more specifically renal tubular toxicity as a consequence of disease or drug treatment.
