Abstract:
An autonomous vehicle (AV) includes features that allows the AV to comply with applicable regulations and statues for performing safe driving operation. An example system for an AV includes obtaining, by a computer located in the AV, an image from a camera located on the AV, where the image characterizes an area towards which the AV is driven on a lane on a road or a highway; determining, from the image, that a pedestrian or a cyclist is located next to the lane on the road or the highway; and in response to the determining, performing driving operations on the AV such as steering from a center of the lane to a first side of the lane that is away from the center of the lane and away from a location of the pedestrian or the cyclist, and/or slowing down the AV in response to certain conditions.
Abstract:
Compositions containing one or more derivatives of essential oil compounds for use in personal care compositions, such as compositions for oral, throat and skin care are disclosed. These derivatives include acetals of parent essential oil aldehydes and ketones; esters or ethers of parent essential oil alcohols and phenolics; and esters of parent essential oil acids. Examples of parent essential oil aldehydes and ketones include citral, cinnamic aldehyde, ρ-anisaldehyde, vanillin, ethyl vanillin, heliotropin, carvone, and menthone. Examples of parent essential oil alcohols and phenolics include thymol, eugenol, isoeugenol, dihydroeugenol, carvacrol, carveol, geraniol, nerol, vanillyl alcohol, heliotropyl alcohol, ρ-anisyl alcohol, cinnamyl alcohol and β-ionol. Examples of parent essential oil acids include ρ-anisic acid, cinnamic acid, vanillic acid and geranic acid. The present compositions comprising essential oil derivatives are useful as base flavor or base perfume for incorporation into personal care products and to provide other benefits including antimicrobial efficacy. Optionally the compositions will contain additional antimicrobially- or anti-inflammatory-effective components including those also derived from plant essential oils or synthetic versions thereof.

Abstract:
A debris filtering apparatus and method. The apparatus includes a first filter assembly. The first filter assembly includes an outer conduit and an inner conduit received within the outer conduit. An inner conduit flowpath is defined within the inner conduit and an outer conduit flowpath is defined between the inner conduit and the outer conduit. The inner conduit includes a filter. A fluid inlet is in communication with the inner conduit flowpath and a fluid outlet is in communication with the outer conduit flowpath. The filter permits a fluid to pass between the inner conduit flowpath and the outer conduit flowpath while retaining debris within the inner conduit. The method includes passing the fluid through the first filter assembly, removing the inner conduit from within the outer conduit, removing the debris from the inner conduit, and replacing the inner conduit within the outer conduit.
Abstract:
A method for accurate localization and visualization of implanted electrodes, such as implanted intracranial electrodes, is provided. More particularly, a realistic representation of intracranial electrode positions on patient-specific post-implantation MRI brain renderings is obtained. The resulting computer models provide an accurate depiction of electrode locations on three-dimensional brain renderings that are suitable for use in surgical planning of resection boundaries around, for example, epileptic zones. Electrodes placed inter-hemispherically are also visible with this method. In addition, a method for creating electrode "shadows" cast upon the brain model surface is provided. These electrode shadows are useful for estimating cortical areas sampled by iEEG and for locating electrodes that may straddle sulci and contact two adjacent cortical gyri.
Abstract:
A remote battery-operated device operates in accordance with a first set of operating parameters. During operation, power consumption information is generated and transmitted via a data network to a remote location for later use. In one embodiment, the remote location transmits one or more modified parameters back to the battery-operated device which control subsequent operation of the device. In this manner, power consumption within the device may be controlled to achieve a predetermined or desired operating lifetime.
Abstract:
A closure device includes a door carrying a series of interconnected shear blocks and a keystone shear block designed to transfer stresses created by pressure acting on the door to a surrounding hub. Each interconnected shear block has limited rotation relative to its adjacent blocks. A holding band operating handle is in communication with a driving link which, in turn, is in communication with the keystone shear block. Actuating the handle causes the keystone shear block to move in an upward vertical direction. The linear movement of the keystone shear block allows the limited rotation of the interconnected shear blocks to occur, thereby causing the circumferential holding band to collapse within itself from an expanded-engaged position to a contracted-removed position relative to said hub. A pressure warning lock provides a safety device and prevents actuation of the holding band operating handle when the pressure chamber is under pressure.

A patient interface (10) includes a sealing arrangement (20) adapted to provide an effective seal with the patient's nose, an inlet conduit arrangement (30) adapted to deliver breathable gas to the sealing arrangement (20), and a cover (40) that substantially encloses the sealing arrangement (20) and/or the inlet conduit arrangement (30).
Abstract:
A method of generating identifying information for a biological material, the method including the steps of: (a) collecting a sample of the biological material from a biological system; (b) conducting an analysis on the sample of the biological material in order to obtain identifying information; and (c) transferring a copy or details of the identifying information to an information storage and/or retrieval system.
Abstract:
A tracheostomy system includes an outer multi-layered tube, which can be expanded or allowed to contract as necessary in order to receive various sizes of cannula tubes. A dilator is used to initially insert the outer tracheostomy tube into the tracheostoma. After the initial installation dilator is removed, various sizes of dilators having a cannula mounted about them can be inserted into the outer tracheostomy tube. The multilayered tube will then expand in response to insertion of the various sizes of dilator cannula assembly being placed. When the dilator is removed the cannula tube will remain in place to maintain the desired diameter tracheostomy tube. This provides a means in which the diameter of the tube can be changed without having to actually remove and reinsert a different tube.
