Abstract:
Some embodiments provide a process for the production of ethanol. The process includes performing liquefaction, saccharification, and fermentation steps to produce ethanol from an organic material. In one embodiment, the liquefaction step may include disposing a carbon-containing material within a first vessel, adding at least one enzyme to the first vessel, and incubating the first vessel at a first temperature for a predetermined time period. Next, the saccharification step can include adding at least one enzyme to the first vessel and then incubating the first vessel at a second temperature to form a liquefact in the first vessel. Then, in some embodiments, the fermentation step includes removing the liquefact from the first vessel and transferring the liquefact to a second vessel. Once in the second vessel, at least one additional enzyme, at least one nutrient, and a plurality of yeast cells can be added to the second vessel. Then, the second vessel is incubated to promote fermentation.
Abstract:
Novel fluorocarbon polymers with a heteroaromatic group or a HPCA group are disclosed. A protonated fluoropolymer with a heteroaromatic group can be used as a cation-conductive electrolyte while an HPCA-based fluoropolymer encapsulating a H + or Li + can be employed as anion-transporting electrolyte.
Abstract:
A method for treating a subject with symptoms of tinnitus and pharmaceutical compositions for treating tinnitus, the pharmaceutical compositions comprising one or more of the following: sazetidine, a pharmaceutically acceptable salt of sazetidine, varenicline, a pharmaceutically acceptable salt of varenicline, or any combination thereof.
Abstract:
Among the various aspects of the present disclosure is the provision of a transgenic organism, an artificial DNA construct, and methods for producing a transgenic organism for indigo, indirubin, and other indole-derived compound production. Another aspect of the present disclosure is the provision of a transgenic organism wherein the indole-derived compound imparts color to the transgenic organism or to a portion of the transgenic organism.
Abstract:
Silaanthracene compounds and methods of producing silaanthracene compounds, in particular silaanthracene fluorophores for use as red or near infrared sensors, probes, dyes, and tags are provided.
Abstract:
A method for inhibiting invasion or metastasis of cancer cells that contemplates enhancing the expression of miR-224 in those cells, particularly human breast cancer ceils is disclosed. The production of miR-224 can be enhanced by suppressing the expression of Ubc9 in rhose cancer cells. Expression of Ubc9 can be suppressed by administering to those cancer cells an effective amount of antisense Ubc9 having a sequence complementary to a portion of the coding region or a non-coding region of Ubc9 mRNA and has a length of 10 to about 170 bases.
Abstract:
The embodiments of the invention are directed to organosilane-based coating compositions having anti-reflective, anti-soiling, and self-cleaning properties; methods of forming of the coatings; and articles of manufacture that utilize the coatings. In some embodiments, the coating compositions comprise an organosilane or mixture of organosilanes, a solvent, optionally an acid catalyst, and optionally a low molecular weight polymer.
Abstract:
Novel small expressed microRNA molecules associated with physiological regulatory mechanisms and particularly in developmental control are provided herein. More particularly, the present invention relates to microRNA molecules that suppress cancerous cell growth and other cancer-related disorders by suppressing tumor promoting factors such as, for example, Ubc9. Further, it is contemplated that the use of the microRNA molecules hereof will improve the diagnoses, prevention and/or treatment and also the identification and development of pharmaceuticals that are effective in connection with cancer cell growth.
