Described are tunable multiport optical filters that filter systems with many optical channels in a convenient and cost-effective manner. The tunable multiport optical filters of the invention are simple in design and have few optical components. The basic elements are a dispersion element and a rotating mirror. With properly arranged arrays of input and output optical fibers, individual wavelength components from a selected input beam are spatially separated and steered by the rotating mirror to selected output locations. The optical properties from the selected components may be measured by one or more photodetectors. The filters are also useful for selecting and routing optical signals.

The modulator includes a bandwidth efficient coder/modulator, a Microwave/millimeter-wave upconverter and an OSSB modulator, an optical notch filter and a chirped fiber grating. The demodulator uses at least one narrowband optical bandpass filter in combination with at least one baseband optical receiver to recover the transmitted baseband digital signals. The modulation method and device are suitable for short or long-distance optical fiber transmission systems.

A wearable illumination activity recording apparatus (1) includes a processing unit (11), a light sensing unit (12) and a motion sensing unit (13). The light sensing unit (12) is electrically connected to the processing unit (11) and outputs a light sensing signal (LS) to the processing unit (11). The motion sensing unit (13) is electrically connected to the processing unit (11) and outputs a motion sensing signal (MS) to the processing unit (11). The processing unit (11) determines whether the wearable illumination activity recording apparatus (1) is indoors or outdoors according to the light sensing signal (LS), and determines whether the wearable illumination activity recording apparatus (1) is in motion or not according to the motion sensing signal (MS). When the wearable illumination activity recording apparatus (1) is outdoors and in motion, the processing unit (11) records an illumination-receiving time.
