Abstract: A support plate (50) having through holes (52) is attached to the back of a display panel (10), and photodetectors (70) are installed in positions corresponding to the respective through holes (52). Each photodetector (70) directly receives light from a cell opposed to the corresponding through hole (52) and detects the intensity of the light. A correction control section generates a correction signal according to the detected intensity of light from each cell during display of a test display pattern. According to the correction signal, the light intensity adjusting section corrects the luminance information included in an image signal supplied to allow each cell to emit light. A signal processing section generates an image display signal to be supplied to the display panel according to the corrected image signal. Thus, the intensity of light emitted from each cell be adjusted according to the light intensify directly detected by the corresponding photodetector (70) through the through hole (52). Consequently, the luminance variation caused after the flat panel display is shipped can be eliminated.

Abstract: 　画像表示装置は、１フィールドを重み付けされた複数のサブフィールドに分割し、該複数のサブフィールドを組み合わせて表示パネルに多階調表示を行うもので、動き量検出回路（５０）、拡散量演算回路５２、および、拡散回路５３を有する。動き量検出回路５０は、入力画像信号から現フィールドと該現フィールドより以前のフィールドとから動き量を検出する。また、拡散量演算回路５２は、入力画像信号の階調と検出された動き量に基づいて、偽輪郭ノイズを周辺に拡散するための拡散量を演算する。そして、拡散回路５３は、演算された拡散量により拡散処理を行う。これにより、新たなノイズの発生や回路規模の増大を伴うことなく、偽輪郭を低減して動画表示の画質を向上させることができる。
