Abstract:
A circular saw blade (10) with improved stability, the blade (10) having a plurality of radial expansion slots (20), preferably having a "J"-shape. The blades (10) may also have a plurality of arced body slots (30) and may be coated with a TEFLON paint mixture.
Abstract:
A hole saw (200) comprises a cup (202) with two cutting teeth (204) positioned on the open end of the cup (202). The two cutting teeth (204) are substantially diametrically opposed to one another to provide a balanced cutting engagement of the media and are spaced apart by a chord length of between about 45 and 180 degrees. A pair of secondary gullets (207) are positioned in the cup (202) proximate to a forward cutting edge (206) of the two cutting teeth (204). The secondary gullets (207) have a predetermined depth and shape along a longitudinal axis of the cup (202) to suitably remove debris from the cup (202) during a portion of the duration of the hole cut. A plurality of raker teeth (212) may be positioned on the chords defining the spacing between the cutting teeth (204). The raker teeth (212) are disposed below the cutting teeth (204), approximately 0.030 inches to engage and move cutting debris formed by the cutting teeth (204).
Abstract:
A spade drill bit design in which the chip flow direction along the cutting edge (22, 24) is always in the same direction is disclosed. As the chip flow direction is governed by the chip velocity vector, the cutting edge (22, 24) is designed so that the chip velocity is always generally perpendicular to a line drawn on the main cutting edge (22, 24) to the center axis of the cutting bit.
Abstract:
A double-ended drill bit (50) having opposed cutting ends (52, 54) of different structural configurations is provided in combination with a sleeve or holder (10) to be received within a drill chuck. The sleeve is provided with a cylindrical body (14) having a top end with a pair of helically-shaped longitudinally extending members (16, 18) in spaced mating relation attached thereto. One cutting end of a drill bit is received within the cylindrical body and the spaced helically-shaped members.
Abstract:
A cutting tool insert includes a cutting tip mounted into a first recess of a molded hard refractory compound insert having a second recess of preselected size and shape for locating the insert to a cutting tool. A preferred cutting tip is a diamond and a preferred hard refractory compound is a tungsten carbide with a cobalt binder.
Abstract:
A masonry drill and method of manufacture is disclosed. The drill has an elongated axial body with at least one discharge groove and a transverse slot located at one end with a hardened drill bit insert brazed within the slot. The hardened insert has projections extending outward from flat planar surfaces which hold the insert in proper orientation within the axial drill body so that it may be brazed into place subsequent to insertion into the drill body.
Abstract:
A hole saw having plug ejection feature. Using the arbor (20) and arbor nut (40, 140) of the present invention, the arbor of an ordinary commercially available hole saw is replaced, the arbor nut (40, 140) of the present invention being threaded into the hole saw cup (2) axial threaded inlet (6), to convert the ordinary hole saw into a plug ejecting hole saw. The arbor (20) and arbor nut (40, 140) of the plug ejecting hole saw of the present invention function as the arbor of an ordinary hole saw when used to drill the desired hole, the drill turning in a clockwise direction. When the drill rotation is reversed to a counter clockwise direction and the hole saw cup (2) is held stationary, the arbor (20) of the present invention screws through the also stationary arbor nut (40, 140), thereby ejecting the plug (1) from the hole saw cup (2).
Abstract:
A power outlet strip (30) having at least one receptacle (13); an element (12) for receiving power from a power source; a switch (4) coupled between the receptacle (13) and the element (12) for receiving power, which operates to control power transfer to the receptacle (13); a sliding member (7); and a safety key (6) for controlling the position of the sliding member (7). When the safety key (6) is engaged in the outlet strip (30), it positions the sliding member (7) such that the switch (4) is accessible and operable by an operator. When the safety key (6) is removed from the outlet strip (30), it positions the sliding member (7) such that the switch (4) is inoperable by the operator. The outlet strip (30) also includes a switch cover (1) for covering the switch (4). The switch cover (1) has at least one leaf spring (52) and an actuating member (54). The actuating member (54) is operative for toggling the switch (4) to an OFF position when the switch cover (1) is depressed. The leaf spring (52) is operative for maintaining the actuating member (54) above the switch (4) when no pressure is applied to the switch cover (1).
Abstract:
A carbide substrate including a binder prepared to receive a cutting material such as a diamond coating thereon. The substrate is immersed in an electrolyte solution with the substrate acting as the anode thereby providing for an electro-polished substrate surface. The electro-polished substrate surface is then etched to substantially remove the binder phase of the carbide substrate, the etching being to a depth of up to about 15 microns. The resulting surface is susceptible for receiving a coating of the diamond cutting material.
Abstract:
A masonry drill bit (20) having an improved insert geometry, insert orientation, and interface clearance for providing improved drill speed and penetration rate. The drill bit (20) is adapted for use in drilling masonry or other hard, brittle material.
