Abstract:
The disclosure relates generally to a method for reducing the thermal expansion/shrinkage behavior between fiber reinforced plies and monolithic matrix plies, and reducing the macroscopic defects that occur during process of making a ceramic matrix composite article.
Abstract:
A method of making a composite sheet, a method of making composite component and a composite component are provided. The method of making a composite sheet includes providing a container, adding a binder to the container, adding a plurality of randomly oriented fibers to the binder in the container, and subjecting the container to motion to coat the plurality of randomly oriented fibers with the binder. The method includes curing the binder and coated plurality of randomly oriented fibers to form a composite sheet. The plurality of randomly oriented fibers of the composite sheet are interlocked within the binder. The composite has uniform strength in all planar directions.
Abstract:
Provided is a method including obtaining ceramic matrix composite (CMC) with a first matrix portion including a silicon carbide and silicon phase dispersed therewithin, disposing a coating thereupon to form a sealed part, and forming thereupon another segment comprising a CMC, which may be another matrix portion including a silicon carbide and a silicon phase dispersed within therewithin. Also provided is a gas turbine component with a CMC segment (210) including a matrix portion including a silicon carbide and a silicon phase dispersed therewithin, a sealing layer (230) including silicon carbide enclosing the first segment (210), and a second segment (250) on the sealing layer (230), wherein the second segment (250) includes a melt-infiltrated CMC having a matrix portion including a silicon carbide and a silicon phase dispersed therewithin.
