Abstract:
A content item review management apparatus (101) comprises a data store (209) which stores review data and content item characteristics for previously reviewed content items. A content item is received for review and content item characteristics, such as keywords, are determined for the content item. A match processor (207) matches the content item characteristic with content item characteristics of previously reviewed content items and stored review data is extracted based on the comparison. Initial review data for the content item is generated based on the extracted review data and a transmitter (215) transmits the initial review data to the source. The invention may allow review data estimating manually generated review data to be automatically generated.
Abstract:
A wireless communication system (100) comprising a first application (software program) (110), in communication with at least a second application (140) over a wireless network link (115), the wireless network link connecting to a network comprising at least one mediator (defined herein) (125), acting as a gateway or proxy server, the mediator (125) characterized by facilitating the storage of information sufficient to restore the operating state of the first application by routing said information to a storage means (130) and retrieving said information as required. This enables the persistence of the state of the first application in the event of device/battery failure, a lost network connection, or upon access to the state information by a separate device equipped with a similar application.
Abstract:
Access rights to content items, such as personal photos etc, is determined in response to content metadata and requester metadata. A plurality of content items is stored (201) in a content item store (113). An access right processor (111) determines (203) content metadata for the plurality of content items. When a request for a content item is received (205), the access right processor (111) determines (207) requester metadata for the request. The requester metadata comprises data of a characteristic of a requester of the request. The access right processor (111) then determines (209) access rights in response to the content metadata and the requester metadata. If a positive access right is determined, the requested content item may be sent (211) to the requester (105). The access right may further be determined in response to past usage data or context data for the content items.
Abstract:
A content item distribution system comprises content item presentation devices (103, 105, 107) with receivers (201) for receiving content items from a broadcast transmitter (101) via a broadcast communication system. The devices comprise a recording controller (203) which can detect that a broadcast of a selected content item is ongoing. A processor (211) determines a missed part of the selected content item and in response a request transmitter (213) transmits a request to external sources using a different communication system than the broadcast communication system. A network receiver (217) receives the missed part of the content item via the different communication system and the recording controller (203) combines this with a remaining part received via the broadcast communication system to generate a complete content item.
Abstract:
An audio stream server (115) comprises a request processor (203) which receives an audiovisual stream request for an audiovisual stream from a communication unit (101). The request comprises a location indication for the audiovisual stream. A selection processor (205) selects a group of stream feed units (103) from a plurality of stream feed units in response to the location indication and a stream data processor (207) receives audiovisual streams from at least one stream feed unit of the group of stream feed units (103). A stream generation processor (209) then generates an audiovisual stream for the communication unit (101) from the received audiovisual stream and a stream transmit processor (211) transmits the generated audiovisual stream to the communication unit (101). The communication unit (101) and/or the stream feed units (103) may specifically be user equipments of a cellular communication system. The invention may allow an audio stream for a given real world location to be provided on request e.g. using an existing cellular communication system.
Abstract:
A reasoning apparatus (101) is arranged to determine device locations for user profile elements of a distributed user profile. A user profile processor (201) receives a user profile which comprises a plurality of user profile elements. Each user profile element furthermore comprises associated metadata. The apparatus (101) also comprises a device profile receiver (203) that receives device profiles for a plurality of devices. A device location processor (205) proceeds to determine device locations for the user profile elements in response to the associated metadata and the device profiles. Specifically, a user profile element may be assigned to a specific device if the device profile for that device matches the metadata for the user profile element. The reasoning apparatus (101) may furthermore comprise a user profile element synchroniser (207) which synchronises the user profile elements with the appropriate devices.
Abstract:
A content item recommendation system comprises a recommender (203) which generates a set of recommendations for content items available through a first content item distribution system. A coordination processor (205) determines an availability characteristic for a set of content items available through a second content item distribution system of a set of content item distribution systems. The availability characteristic may indicate which content items are available to a user via the second content item distribution system. The modification processor (207) then modifies a recommendation characteristic for the set of recommendations in response to the availability characteristic for the set of content items. The approach may enable or facilitate co-ordination between different content item distribution systems while still allowing separate and independent operation of the content item distribution systems.
Abstract:
The invention generates a user profile for applications or services. Initially, a first user profile is generated at a first user device (101) for a first user. The first user device (101) stores user contacts for the first user, with the user contacts being associated with a social network of the first user. A set of user devices (103, 105, 107) associated with a set of the stored user contacts is then determined and at least part of the first user profile is transmitted to this set of user devices (103, 105, 107). At least one user device (103, 105, 107) generates user profile feedback which is transmitted back to the first user device (101). The first user device (101) then modifies the first user profile in response to the received user profile feedback. The invention allows a fast generation of an initial user profile with improved accuracy.
Abstract:
The invention relates to personalizing an application such as a content search and retrieval application. An ontology store (301) provides a multi-user ontology for a plurality of users. The multi-user ontology can be a standardised ontology. A user preference processor (303) provides a user preference profile for a first user and a concept processor (305) generates at least one additional concept for the multi-user ontology in response to the user preference profile. The additional concept is a predecessor concept for a group of concepts that have preferences in the user preference profile which meet a first criterion, such as a requirement that the concepts have sufficiently high preference values. An ontology processor (307) then generates a personalized ontology for the first user by adding the at least one additional concept to the multi-user ontology. An application processor (309) then proceeds to adapt the application for the first user in response to the personalised ontology.
Abstract:
An apparatus (101) for a data communication system comprises a user group processor (207) which generates a user group for a first user. A set of content topics is determined and stored in a topic set storage (211). A communication processor (201) monitors a data communication of the user group and a content topic processor (205) determines the current content topic of the data communication by content data extraction. A notification processor (209) compares the current topic and the set of content topics and generates a notification signal in response to this comparison. The notification processor (209) may for example alert a user to a change of content topics for a trusted community defined by the user group.
