    Abstract: Presented and described is a physical lung model (PLM) for training and teaching comprising a lung compartment (8, 8') which is delimited by an enlargeable and reducible piston (5, 5') for enlarging and reducing the volume of the lung compartment (8, 8'), a lid (21, 21')sealing a first end of the piston (5, 5'), a support body (6, 6') carrying the piston (5, 5') in that a second end of the piston (5, 5') is sealingly attached to the support body (6, 6'); and further comprising an airway (28) leading from the lung compartment (8, 8') to an airway opening (1). According to the invention provision is made for a mechanical stop (7, 7'), which is attached to the piston (5, 5') and partitions the piston (5, 5') into a first enlargeable and reducible section (5a, 5a') and a second enlargeable and reducible section (5b, 5b'), the mechanical stop (7, 7') describing a path of movement during the enlargement of the lung compartment (8, 8'), and further provision is made for a lever (20, 20'), which is installed for blocking the movement of the stop (7, 7') at a predefined point on the path of movement during enlargement of the lung compartment (8, 8') and, thereby consequently, restricting the enlargement of the lung compartment (8, 8'). Further presented and described is a simulator for training and teaching comprising said physical lung model (PLM). Moreover, presented and described is a method of simulating lung mechanics, in particular for training and teaching purposes.
