Abstract:
A smoking article filter (114) according to the invention includes a flow restrictor (126) and a cavity (146) downstream of the flow restrictor. The flow restrictor includes an orifice (130) or flow channel for directing smoke into the cavity. The filter is attached to a tobacco rod (112) with tipping paper (116) and includes an air-admissible ventilating zone (140) at a location downstream of the restrictor. The invention also provides smoking articles including filters comprising restrictors and methods of making filters and smoking articles.

The filter includes a tubular segment (18) open at the downstream end thereof and a flow restrictor (30) contained within the tubular segment. The filter is attached to the tobacco rod with tipping paper (16) and includes an air-admissible ventilating zone (40) at a location between the upstream end and the downstream end of the filter.
Abstract:
A non-combustible smoking system, comprising: a cartridge having a first end and a second end, the cartridge including a pre-vapor formulation reservoir element configured to contain a pre-vapor formulation material, and a pre-vapor heating element coupled to the pre-vapor formulation reservoir element, the pre-vapor heating element configured to heat at least a portion of the pre- vapor formulation material to generate a vapor, and to provide the vapor to a first channel through the cartridge; and a tobacco containing section having a third end and a fourth end, the tobacco containing section including a tobacco housing configured to contain tobacco, and to provide an aroma to a second channel through the tobacco containing section, and a tobacco heating element configured to heat at least a portion of the tobacco to generate the aroma; wherein the first end of the cartridge is configured to be connected to the fourth end of the tobacco containing section, and the second end of the cartridge is configured to be connected to the third end of the tobacco containing section.
Abstract:
Provided are smoking articles 10 with a controlled flavor release product 16. The controlled flavor release product includes a first time-release flavorant 24 and a second time-release flavorant 26. The controlled flavor release product is a film or a lip balm type formulation that is applied to the downstream end 14 of a smoking article.
Abstract:
A cigarette (10) having a multi-component filter (14) wherein an upstream sorbent-bearing segment (15) removes at least one constituent from mainstream tobacco smoke passing through the filter and a downstream flavor segment (17) compensates for taste lost to the sorbent. The flavor component (27) releases volatile flavor constituents into the mainstream smoke under ambient conditions.
Abstract:
A smoking article (10) having a tobacco rod (20) adapted to produce mainstream smoke and a filter (30) having an upstream end portion (32) and a downstream end portion (34), and wherein the filter is arranged to receive mainstream smoke at the upstream end portion. The filter includes a first filter segment (40) of low particulate efficiency at the upstream end portion; a channeled flow segment (60) adjacent to the first filter segment, the channeled flow segment including a flow channel (62) establishing a substantial portion of a predetermined resistance to draw of the smoking article; a mouthpiece filter segment (50) of low particulate efficiency at the downstream end portion; and a tubular body segment (64) at least partially defining a portion of a cavity (66) between the mouthpiece filter segment and the channeled flow segment. Tipping paper (28) attaches the filter with the tobacco rod and includes an air-admissible ventilation zone (70) at a location along the tubular body segment.
Abstract:
Improved delivery of additive materials to cigarettes is provided through the use of one or more capsules (10) containing additive materials, such as flavor components, in the filter section (40) of a cigarette. The sealed capsule or capsules are subjected to an external force, such as squeezing, by a smoker prior to or during smoking of the cigarette in order to release at least a portion of the additive material from the one or more capsules and expose the additive material to mainstream smoke passing through the filter. The sealed capsules provide a barrier between the additive materials and other cigarettes components, such as sorbents or filter materials, in order to reduce additive material migration into the other cigarette components prior to desired use.
Abstract:
A cigarette (10) comprises a filter (14) and a tobacco rod (12). The filter includes a capsule (16) having opposite end walls with flavored adsorbent particles in the enclosure of the capsule. The end walls are perforated so that mainstream tobacco smoke passes through the capsule during the smoking process to thereby modify the characteristics of the smoke. Overall the capsule enables more exact filling of adsorbent particles and more control of flavor per cigarette.
Abstract:
There is provided a vaping device (60) comprising a pre-vapor formulation housing (70), a heating element (34) and an insert (80). The pre-vapor formulation housing (70) is configured to house a pre-vapor formulation, the pre-vapor formulation housing (70) defining a channel (28) there through. The heating element (34) is configured to heat at least a portion of the pre-vapor formulation into a vapor and provide the vapor to a first portion of the channel (28). The insert (80) is at a second portion of the channel (28) and positioned to receive the vapor, the insert (80) being subdivided into at least a first section and a second section. The first section contains a first material that releases at a first temperature, and the second section contains a second material that releases at a second temperature, the second temperature being less than the first temperature.
