At least a portion of the base intended to be pierced in use is formed of a polymer and the base comprises a plurality of laser-formed features (60) to promote piercing, in use, of the base by the perforation element. A method of forming a sealed joint between a tubular article (10) and a thin sheet article (14) wherein the articles (10, 14) are made of metallic materials that are capable of fusion welding together. One step in the method involves locating an end of the tubular article in a collar (20) surrounding a hole (12) formed in the thin sheet article (14). An end (22) of the tubular article (14) is positioned to lie substantially flush with a proximal end (24) of the collar (20). Next the ends (22, 24) of the collar and the tubular article are fusion welded forming a circumferential bead (26) creating an integral joint. Consequently in effect the previously separate a tubular article (10) and a thin sheet article (14) become a single piece.

Die vorliegende Erfindung betrifft einen Turbinenläufer für einen Turbolader, insbesondere für ein Kraftfahrzeug, mit einem einstückig ausgebildeten Turbinenrad, welches eine Turbinenbeschaufelung und einen massiv ausgebildeten Turbinenradabsatz mit einer ersten Stirnfläche, ohne Hohlräume oder Vertiefungen, aufweist, und mit einer einstückig ausgebildeten Läuferwelle, die eine zweite Stirnfläche (7) mit einer koaxial zur Drehachse (9) angeordnete Vertiefung (8) aufweist, wobei die erste Stirnfläche des Turbinenradabsatzes mit einer zweiten Stirnfläche der Läuferwelle Stoff schlüssig durch eine Reibschweißverbindung verbunden ist. Die vorliegende Erfindung betrifft ferner einen Turbolader und ein Verfahren zur Herstellung eines erfindungsgemäßen Turbinenläufers.
