Abstract: There is provided a process for converting a CO2 and/or H2O-containing gas mixture, such as flue gas, into a low-carbon fuel. The process comprises contacting the gas mixture with a catalyst comprising: a catalyst body having metallic iron exposed superficially and pores. There is also provided processes for manufacturing an iron-based porous catalyst as porous monoliths having exposed catalytically active surfaces. There is also provided an iron-based catalyst, including iron oxides, to at least partially remove SOx from a gas mixture and a process for at least partially removing SOx from a gas mixture using the iron-based catalyst.

Abstract: A system (100) for generating and using carbon dioxide comprises: (a) a closed system combustion stage (38) for combusting a fuel in a furnace and producing an off gas containing carbon dioxide (44); and (b) an algae growth and oxygen generation stage (10) for receiving off gas generated in the closed system combustion stage (38) wherein the algae growth and oxygen generation stage (10) through the action of algae: (i) converts carbon dioxide (44) to a chemical product, and oxygen; and (ii) provides a gas stream (37) to the closed system combustion stage (38), the gas stream comprising oxygen and carbon dioxide. The closed system combustion stage (38) may, for example, be conducted in a power station. The system (100) is also suitable for integration with crop cultivation, for example sugar cultivation, where carbon dioxide (44) for algal growth may be sourced from combustion of plant material, fermentation of plant material or both.

Abstract: The invention relates to a plant and a method for the production of decarbonised hydrogen using carbonate, water, gas containing hydrocarbons and electricity. The plant 100 first of all comprises an electric calciner 10, a contactor 20, an apparatus for correcting the pH 30 and a metering device 40. The plant 100 is suitable for receiving electrical energy, carbonate, water, natural gas at its input and for releasing decarbonised hydrogen at its outlet and an alkaline water rich in bicarbonates which, once released into the sea, represents the permanent storage for CO2. The plant 100 uses bicarbonates as permanent storage of CO2 in the sea: this storage allows the production of decarbonised hydrogen at low costs and in modular plants.

Abstract: THIS invention relates to a method of sequestering CO2 containing gas with the preparation of a high surface area of rock suited for sequestration in a 3-dimensional permeable heap. The method includes includes the steps of obtaining, or obtaining and comminuting, a material 10 which is suitable for CO2 sequestration to generate a feed stock with a p80 less than 5mm. Separating the feedstock into a coarse fraction 16 and a fine fraction 16, and agglomerating 20 the fine fraction to form an agglomerated particles 22 with an apparent p80 of less than 10mm and with a p10 > 0.15mm. The agglomerated particles are stacked in a heap 18, and a CO2 containing gas, and an irrigant 26, through the permeable and unsaturated heap, to sequester 24 the CO2 contained in the gas.
