Abstract: A method and apparatus for differentiating between authentic and counterfeit item, and legacy additive manufactured (AM) components securely throughout the lifecycle using grating interferometry, blockchain, and smart contracts. The method includes fabrication of a trust anchor by laser power modulation to selectively create porosity which can encode digital information within the component using programmable invisible ink (PGII). X-ray interferometry reads out the digital information as well as texture unique to the component. A quick response (QR) code is implemented with other anti-counterfeiting features to increase efficiency. A smart contract between X-ray interferometry radiography instruments and a blockchain database establishes item provenance. The characteristics of PGII are compatible with additive manufacturing, as well as other manufacturing processes such as injection molding and casting. The method and apparatus have minimal impact on the component fabrication, detects counterfeiting and sabotage, and is conformal to existing item identification standards.

Abstract: A payment card includes hidden features (e.g., textual messages, graphics, emphasis features associated with conspicuous features of the payment card, or the like) undiscernible under only visible light, but discernable under ultraviolet light. The hidden features can be incorporated into multiple layers of a side of the payment card and can be present at different transparencies. A container (e.g., presentation box) can include a circuit to detect when the container is opened and cause the hidden features to be illuminated with ultraviolet light. The ultraviolet light source can be incorporated into the container itself, or can be incorporated into the payment card (e.g., activated by supplying a signal to the payment card from the container).

Abstract: The present invention relates to compositions, comprising (A) platelet-shaped transition metal particles, wherein the number mean diameter of the platelet-shaped transition metal particles, present in the composition, is in the range of from 15 nm to 1000 nm, the transition metal is selected from silver, copper, gold and palladium, especially silver and copper, very especially silver; (B) one, or more reactive diluents (B); (C) one, or more oligomers (C); (D) one, or more photonitiators (D); (E) at least a surfactant (E), which is a block copolymer, comprising at least a block A and a block B, wherein a) the block A comprises a1) monomer units (A1) derived from a compound selected from alkyl (meth)acrylates, alkyl (meth)acrylamides, or any mixture thereof, and a2) monomer units (A2) derived from a hydroxy group, or ether group containing alkyl (meth)acrylate; b) the block B comprises monomer units (B) derived from a compound selected from fluorinated (meth)acrylic esters of formula H2C=CR46(C(O)ORF-1) (XX), wherein R46 is H, or a methyl group; and RF-1 is an organic residue containing a perfluorinated alkyl group; (F) optionally one, or more polymeric binders; (F) optionally one, or more solvents; and (H) optionally further additives. The coatings, obtained with said compositions, show one color, when observed in transmission and another color, when observed in reflection on both sides of the cured coating.

Abstract: A multilayered optical security device (100) has a resonant waveguide grating (RWG) layer (110) on an under layer (120) having a hologram. The RWG layer (110) has plural RWGs (601-625) for generating one or more patterns. Each RWG (601-625) has the first and second RWG portions (301, 302), with diffraction gratings (320, 330) of different grating periods, for light coupling-in and coupling-out, respectively. Using the RWGs (601-625) minimizes interference to a holographic image generated by the under layer (120). This advantage is especially useful when the holographic image carries digital data such as in digital holographic encryption where an encrypted hologram is used in the under layer (120). The digital data may contain biometric information such as a fingerprint. In each RWG portion (301, 302) of an individual RWG (601-625), scattering elements (321, 331) in a grating (320, 330) are curved to thereby enhance an angular tolerance in azimuthal angle during observing the patterns by an observer while the individual RWG (601-625) is still selective in elevation angle.
