The safety algorithm involves setting an evaluation state of the radiation source (20) during evaluation periods separated by evaluation intervals while otherwise setting an adapted state of the radiation source (20), and determining a value of the internal radiation intensity during the evaluation periods in order to assess whether it is safe to restore the normal state of the radiation source (20).
