    Abstract: A system and method for integrating 5g and satellite services. A data stream is received from a first network, and traffic conditions in the first network and a plurality of second networks are analyzed. The data stream is segmented into a first portion and at least one second portion based on the analysis of the traffic conditions, and transmitted over the plurality of second networks. The first portion of the data stream and the second portions of the data stream are received at a destination. The first portion of the data stream and the second portions of the data stream are subsequently reassembled, using reassembly information, to reproduce the data stream received from the first network.

    Abstract: A system and method for beamforming includes scheduling N data streams of the data streams, selecting a cluster of M feeds from the feeds; computing, with a GBBF processor (ground based beam former), M×N weights; generating M feed excitations by distributing the N data streams per the M×N weights; switching an array to transfer a respective one of the M feed excitations to a respective one of the M feeds; and beamforming, with the M feeds of the antenna, N beams. In the method, the N beams are each focused on a respective service area of each of the N data streams, the M×N weights improve the transmitting into the respective service area of each of the N data streams, and at least one of the N beams includes a portion of a plurality of the M feed excitations.

    Abstract: Methods, systems, and apparatus, including computer-readable media, for location management for satellite systems. In some implementations, a controller of a satellite network system receives location data from a user terminal and registers the user terminal in a mobility area with a core network. The controller updates a mapping between satellite beams and mobility areas as the satellite beams move along the ground with respect to the mobility areas, then uses the updated mapping to communicate with the user terminal using an appropriate satellite beam. In some implementations, a controller of a satellite network system determines a mapping of satellite beams to mobility areas, and broadcasts, for each of multiple satellite beams, a message indicating (i) a set of mobility areas that are at least partially covered by the satellite beam and (ii) an indication of boundaries of the mobility areas in the set of mobility areas.

    Abstract: An embodiment provides a method for synchronizing a plurality of super frames to a beam switching time plan defining a plurality of dwell times, the beam switching time plan scheduling a switching between at least two beams which are transmitted using a high-altitude platform or a satellite, wherein each beam covers a respective service area so as to forward a respective data frame to the respective service area via the respective beam; wherein each super frame comprises a data frame to be forwarded by the satellite to the respective service area. The method comprises: • transmitting at least a one of the plurality of super frames to the satellite as reference super frame, using a modulator; • applying the beam switching time plan and forwarding - using the satellite - the reference super frame to the reference terminal within a one of the plurality of dwell times; receiving, using a reference terminal, the one of the plurality of dwell times; • determining a known sequence of the reference super frame within the one of the plurality of dwell times; and • determining a time difference between transmitting the reference super frame and receiving the one of the dwell times or receiving of the reference super frame or a time period being directly dependent on the time difference between transmitting the reference super frame and receiving he one of the dwell times or receiving of the reference super frame.
