    Abstract: A wireless communication network (100, 400) serves User Equipment (UE) (101, 401) based on co-location and Received Signal Strength (RSS). A serving wireless access node (111, 411) selects itself for an uplink and downlink when no candidate wireless access nodes (114-116, 414-416) are co-located with the serving node (111, 411). The serving node (111, 411) selects a candidate node (112-113, 412-413) for the uplink and downlink when the candidate node (112-113, 412-413) is co-located with the serving node (111, 411) and has an RSS level that exceeds a first threshold. The serving node (111, 411) selects itself for the uplink and selects a candidate node (112-113, 412-413) for the downlink when the candidate node is co-located with the serving node (111, 411) and has an RSS between the first threshold and a second threshold. The UE (101, 401) may trigger access node selection by entering idle mode. The serving node (111, 411) may condition the selection of a candidate node (112-116, 412-416) on whether the candidate node (112-116, 412-416) supports a wireless network slice for the UE (101, 401).

    Abstract: In one embodiment, a method includes receiving information regarding a subset of a plurality of UEs selected for uplink data transmissions per PRG and a number of layers for each of the subset of the plurality of UEs in a TTI from a DU associated with the base station, receiving uplink radio signals from the subset of the plurality of UEs, where the uplink radio signals include DMRS and user data, computing a DMRS-based channel matrix for the subset of the plurality of UEs based on the received DMRS, calculating an RX beamformer matrix based on the DMRS-based channel matrix, producing N layers or greater than N spatial streams by performing an RX beamforming and MIMO detection on the received uplink radio signals, and sending the N layers or the greater than N spatial streams to the DU.

    Abstract: An electronic device may establish a standby network having a service set identifier (SSID). Moreover, the electronic device may receive, from a controller, information specifying neighbors of the electronic device, where the neighbors are within wireless communication range of the electronic device and include a second electronic device. When the electronic device is unable to communicate with the controller, the electronic device may select the second electronic device from the neighbors, where the second electronic device implements a second instance of the standby network having the SSID. Then, the electronic device may provide a message to the second electronic device. Moreover, the electronic device may receive a response to the message from the second electronic device. Next, the electronic device may providing a transparent bridge with the second electronic device using the standby network, where the transparent bridge provides communication of management traffic between the electronic device and the controller.
