When an auto document feeder feeds an original to an original image reading platen, a CCD line sensor reads the original along the main scanning direction perpendicular to the feeding direction of the original. A string detection circuit detects a streak parallel to the feeding direction in the image. A string correction circuit corrects the detected streak. In particular, for a predetermined number of sub-scanning positions that are located in the same main scanning position as the main scanning position at which the streak has been detected by the string detection circuit and that exist subsequent to the sub-scanning position at which the streak has been detected, correction is performed by the string correction circuit even when no streak is detected by the string detection circuit.

Embodiments herein include a method of combining a graphic image with other data to be printed, such as text or other graphics. One embodiment receives image data and document data and applies a mask to the image data to produce an image snippet. The mask adjusts a transparency of the image data in the image snippet by eliminating pixels from the image data. The method combines the document data and the image snippet into a page description language (PDL) file (PostScript file) using a print driver. One feature of the embodiments herein is that the image snippet is combined with the document data only by the print driver, and the image does not need to be combined downstream using an interpreter. After creating the PDL file, then the method processes the page description language file through an interpreter to produce raster data and prints the raster data on a media sheet using a printer.

A light beam is detected/localized by multisector detector—quad-cell, or 5+ sectors handling plural beams. Preferences: Beams focus to diffraction limit on the detector, which reveals origin direction by null-balance—shifting spots to a central sector junction, and measuring shifts to reach there. One or more MEMS reflectors, and control system with programmed processor(s), sequence the spot toward center: following a normal to an intersector boundary; then along the boundary. One afocal optic amplifies MEMS deflections; another sends beams to imaging optics. After it's known which sector received a spot, and the beam shifts, source direction is reported. The system can respond toward that (or a related) direction. It can illuminate objects, generating beams reflectively. Optics define an FOR in which to search; other optics define an FOV (narrower), for imaging spots onto the detector. The FOR:FOV angular ratio is on order of ten—roughly 180:20°, or 120:10°.

Conventional video call attempts encountering a device inoperable according to a desired capability will fail if the receiving device is unable to complete the call at the desired service level (i.e. video). In addition to frustrating the communication attempts between users, another issue is that resources consumed in the attempted but failed exchange are not recoverable, since the call never completed. Accordingly, configurations herein substantially overcome such shortcomings by providing a fallback mechanism that identifies a service level operable by both the initiating device and the receiving device, and completes the call at a lower service level operable by both devices. The disclosed approach allows a call to complete at an alternate service level (i.e. voice instead of video) rather than failing the call completely, resulting in a source of lost revenue to the service provider (operator).

This invention relates to methods of shaping the anterior surface of the eye for controlling the progression of refractive error of the eye, in particular, myopia. The method employs the fitting of orthokeratology lenses having a precisely shaped posterior surface adapted to accurately shape the peripheral region of the eye. The method includes the steps of assessing central and peripheral refractive error parameters for the eye, determining the optimal anterior surface profile for the eye, including at both the optical centre of the cornea and at a selected optical periphery of the cornea, which would result in a desired refractive correction to achieve good vision for the eye and the desired peripheral refraction (curvature of field) for the eye for controlling progression of myopia. Accurate measurement of the shape of the pre-treated eye is important, thereby enabling a corresponding lens profile to be designed or selected so that the treatment process achieves a post-treatment peripheral profile which optimally focuses peripheral rays anteriorly of the retina, thereby controlling the progression of myopia. The invention extends to a lens manufactured so as to optimally treat the peripheral region of the eye.

Image deterioration due to decrease in transfer amount, which arises when a remaining amount of wetting liquid for wet wiping is decreased, is reduced in an ink-jet printing apparatus. When the remaining amount of the wetting liquid decreases to reach a predetermined amount or less, a wetting liquid tank is moved down, and thereby an intrusion amount of a wiper into a transfer portion is made larger than a standard value. This increases an area of the wiper where the wiper comes into contact with the transfer portion, which allows the transfer amount to be maintained at a substantially same level as the reference value. This enables the transfer amount to be prevented from decreasing when the remaining amount decreases, and the transfer amount almost the same as that in an initial stage to be ensured even in a later stage of an apparatus life time.

With an appropriate signal transmission form, a drive pulse output circuit is mounted to an ink jet head, so that waveform distortion of an actuator drive pulse for jet of ink drops is inhibited or prevented. Modulated signal data in memory is read to output a modulated signal, which is power-amplified by a digital power amplifier. The amplified digital signal is smoothed to be output to an actuator as a drive pulse. As a result, the digital power amplifier having high amplification efficiency efficiently amplifies the power of the modulated signal, thereby eliminating the need to use a cooling unit. The drive pulse output circuit can be mounted to the ink jet heads, thereby shortening the transmission path of an actuator drive pulse, which inhibits or prevents any waveform distortion of the drive pulse. The transmission of the modulated signal data DATA is implemented with a low frequency.
