A quick-release vise utilizing one or more clamp shafts that can be easily re-configured to clamp with CW or CCW rotation of a clamp handle. The clamp shaft is received in a housing secured to the underside of a workbench, and is free to slide in and out. The clamp shaft passes through aligned holes in a pair of opposing jaws, at least one of which is moveable. Present invention provides a data protection method, used by a data owner to share data with a data sharer securely through a data distribution system. The data owner first establishes a proxy relationship with the data sharer, while the data distribution system maintains a proxy relationship between the data owner and the data sharer, and after receiving encrypted shared data sent by the data owner, the data distribution system changes the encrypted shared data according to the proxy relationship, so that the data sharer may decrypt the data. By using the data protection method in the present invention, both encryption and decryption of data are a result of coordination of three parties, thereby avoiding a problem of data leakage caused by a problem of a single party.

The data encryption device encrypts data that is stored from the HDD controller to the HDD, and decrypts data that is read from the HDD. A CPU of the data encryption device receives a command issued from the HDD controller to the HDD, and determines whether the command is executable at the HDD. When it is determined that the command is executable, the command is issued to the HDD. On the other hand, when it is determined that the command is unexecutable, the CPU prohibits issuance of the command to the HDD. Furthermore, when a command issued to the HDD is a specific command, the CPU bypasses data transferred between the HDD controller and the HDD without encryption or decryption.

When unauthorized use of a device is suspected, a recharging mechanism (e.g., recharge-circuit) of the device is disabled in order to guard against extended unauthorized use of the device. The recharging mechanism normally recharges the rechargeable-power-supply that powers the device. Consequently, normal use and enjoyment of the device can be significantly reduced by disabling the rechager. Moreover, for devices that are mainly powered by a rechargeable-power-supply (e.g., music-players, phones, Personal Digital Assistants), disabling the recharger effectively renders the device inoperable when the power of the main power-supply has run out. As such, disabling the recharger should serve as a deterrent to theft.

Improving the performance of multitasking processors are provided. For example, a subset of M processors within a Symmetric Multi-Processing System (SMP) with N processors is dedicated for a specific task. The processors dedicated to the task may have their interrupt mechanism disabled to avoid interrupt handler switching overhead. Therefore, these processors run in an independent context and can communicate with the normal OS and cooperation with the normal OS to achieve higher network performance.

A first thread enters a polling loop to wait for a signal from a second thread before processing instructions dependent on the polling loop. When entering the polling loop, the first thread sets a reservation for a predetermined memory address. The first thread then executes a reservation-based instruction that can change the execution state of the first thread. Reservation circuitry of the processing device that was executing the first thread monitors the reservation. In the event that the reservation cleared, such as by the second thread modifying data at the predetermined memory address, the first thread is reinstated to its prior execution state. By using a hardware reservation mechanism to monitor for clearing of a set reservation, repeated memory accesses to the memory address by the first thread can be minimized or avoided while in the polling loop and other threads can be allowed to execute at the processing device with reduced interference from the waiting thread.
