The preparation method includes chemical modification of subjecting starch to one-step etherification to obtain starch ether, followed by physical modification. In the preparation method, the cumbersome multi-step etherification in existing methods for preparing modified starch ether is avoided, and only one-step etherification is used to obtain modified starch ether of better properties. Because physical modification is added, the obtained product can significantly improve the anti-sliding property of a ceramic tile adhesive. Moreover, the conditions for one-step etherification are significantly different from the prior art.

The invention relates to a method and an apparatus for determination of the wear on at least one tire of a vehicle, wherein the vehicle has a tire pressure monitoring system, consisting of a pressure sensor, a transmission unit and a reception unit, as well as a computer unit and a data memory having a database. Proceeding from a circumference of the tire (5) defined by the tire manufacturer and thereby a mantle surface having a length L=2πr, wherein r is the radius of the tire (5), the radius decreases during corresponding wear, and thereby the length of the mantle surface also decreases. The length of the flat pattern of a new tire is therefore greater, in terms of length, than the length of the flat pattern of a used tire. This is determined by a sensor (4), the value of which is transmitted by a first module (2) to a second module (3), which is fixed in place. There, the value L is calculated and compared with data in a database and evaluated.

A configuration with fewer effective gear teeth may allow for larger gears and greater durability/strength; a configuration with multiple pawls/pawl sets may allow for wider load distribution within the ratchet mechanism; a configuration with multiple offset ratchet rings may allow for improved responsiveness (e.g. within fewer degrees of rotation); a configuration with multiple aligned ratchet rings may allow for greater durability/strength and wider load distribution within the ratchet mechanism. A concealment substrate manufacturing process begins by printing or painting a graphic design as camouflage on substrates like mesh-textured uniforms, military equipment, Mylar thermal blanket sheets, adhesive tapes, etc. The graphic design is uniquely generated from pseudo-random noise in four overlaying color pigments that each begin as a raster of randomly generated noise in a standardized tile size. E.g., gray, green, tan, and brown colors natural for concealment applications are each masked by two-tone image contrast rasters. The four results are mixed together in groups with a monochrome mixing mask to produce a whole tile. Such concealment camouflage tile conjoins seamlessly on-edge within other arrays of identical tiles. One variation adds a distorted-grid mesh-texture overly texture to the concealment camouflage, and even a faint “watermark” related to a commercial trademark.

A method and apparatus for detecting and varying indoor bicycle trainer pedaling resistance in varying manner to replicate the effects of increased system inertia. The method uses a high-resolution position detection method to correlate crank acceleration and deceleration to resistance level. The effects of inertia are replicated by limiting acceleration of the crank by application of increased resistance unit resistance and deceleration via reduction of the resistance applied to pedaling. Thus, the decreased magnitude of acceleration events imitates the effects an increased system mass (inertia) perceived by the rider, enhancing “road feel”, which is synonymous with the feeling of accelerating one's own inertia while cycling outdoors. This is accomplished through sensors used to detect or determine crank position with a high resolution, a method of providing and varying resistance, such as an eddy current resistance device using either electromagnets or permanent magnets and a microcontroller to calculate the required magnetic field strength and adjust the field strength or magnet position in the resistance unit to facilitate the change required as determined by the outlined algorithm.

To better understand the impact of glycemic events, some entities have begun examining the relationship between the blood glucose level and another physiological parameter. However, this relationship can be difficult to understand. Introduced here are computer programs and associated computer-implemented techniques for discovering glycemic events in a series of data values representative of blood glucose measurements and then altering the measurement schedule of a sensor capable of generating measurements in a dimension other than blood glucose based on the glycemic events. By altering the measurement schedule of the sensor, a diabetes management platform can better understand how, if at all, dimensions other than blood glucose are related to the glycemic health state of a subject whose blood glucose level is being monitored.
