A device for stocking money comprises, arranged side by side, compartments (7) open at the top and at the bottom to receive the coins (11) falling down one by one. A sliding plate (13) closes at the bottom the compartments (7) containing the coins (11). A driving device (9, 26) moves the compartments (7), for each coin to be stocked, from one division to another, for returning in the other direction. The stocked coins (11) slide onto the sliding plate (13) and fall at the end of this plate (13) in a guide (14), so as to be returned. The compartments (7) move along a straight line; they may also be arranged on a stocking device having the shape of a wheel. The driving mechanism (9, 26) may have the shape of a Malta cross (26).
