Asemi-annular mold space is defened by a pair of rotating wheels (10,12) and an endless belt (18) passing aroung cur- cumferential surfaces of the wheels (10,12). Molten metal (40) is injected into the mold space upwardly so that it is statically poured into the mold. The circumferential edges of opposing surfaces ofthe wheels (10,12) have surfaces (14,16) inclined in such a manner that the width of the mold space becomes narrower in the direction toward the axis of the wheels (10,12). The molten metal (40) is continuously solidified by the belt (18) and the inclined surfaces (14,16) and withdrawn horizon- tallyfrom the mold space as a cast strip (48) while unsolidified molten metal remains within the upper portion of the solid shell.
