A dot printer for printing letters or symbols by aggregated dots generates a second dot matrix pattern from a basic dot matrix pattern by a simple algorithm so that gaps between dots in the basic dot matrix pattern are filled up. The basic dot matrix pattern and the second dot matrix pattern are synthetically edited, and high-grade printed letters are obtained by using the resulting edited dot matrix pattern.
