Disclosed is a press (10) particularly useful as a garlic press that includes a two-piece bowl (12) having a plurality of holes (20) through one surface thereof (e.g. the bottom surface (18)). The bowl (12) is preferably hinged along one side wall so that the bowl can be opened into two separate portions connected at the hinge (14). Each portion of the bowl includes a plurality of grooves (20) on the contacting edges of the two portions. An arm (22) is connected on the side of each bowl (12a and 12b) opposite the hinge (14), and when the two arms (22a and 22b) are brought together, the bottom surface (18) of the bowl is unified with the grooves (20) forming the openings in bottom surface (18). A plunger (30) depressed over the garlic minces the garlic or other pressable article placed in the bowl (12). Then the bowl (12) may be opened about the hinge (14) so as to permit the sidewall (19) of the openings to be exposed for easy cleaning.
