A plurality of image sensors (101-104) are provided, light-receiving portions (a₁,a₂,b₁,b₂) of which are arranged at split positions which are not adjacent to each other when an object image is split into a plurality of image portions on each image formation plane (A,B). An image synthesizing circuit (3) receives information from the image pickup elements and synthesizes the output object image. The image sensors are controlled by a timing signal from a single clock generation circuit.
