A plurality of image sensors (101-104) are provided, light-receiving portions (a₁,a₂,b₁,b₂) of which are arranged at split positions which are not adjacent to each other when an object image is split into a plurality of image portions on each image formation plane (A,B). An image synthesizing circuit (3) receives information from the image pickup elements and synthesizes the output object image.
