Video images produced by, for example, a telecine may be manipulated to produce a variety of border effects.
Horizontal and vertical scan addresses for the image to be displayed are compared with reference addresses delineating the active picure area. Addresses which fall outside the active picure area are blanked. The reference addresses are then modified by addition of a portion of the horizontal and vertical scan addresses to introduce blank areas on the displayed image. Curved borders can be produced by modifying the data applied to the reference address with reference data, for example from look-up tables.
