A benzylhydrazone derivative represented by the general formula (I):
[wherein X is CH-OR 5 or N~OR 5 (wherein R 5 is a C 1 - 6 alkyl group), Y is a C 1 - 6 alkoxy group, a C 1 - 6 alkylthio group, an unsubstituted amino group, or a mono- or di-substituted amino group having as the substituent(s) one or two C 1-6 alkyl groups, each of Z's is a halogen atom, a C 1-6 alkyl group or a halo-C 1-6 alkyl groups, m is zero or an integer of 1 to 4, R 1 is a hydrogen atom, a C 1-6 alkyl group or a halo-C 1-6 alkyl group, each of R 2 , R 3 and R 4 is a specific group] which is very effective against rice blast, cucumber downy mildew, barley powdery mildew, etc. at a low dosage; a process for producing said derivative; and an agricultural and horticultural fungicide containing said derivative as an active ingredient.
