A microprocessor device for monitoring and controlling a light fitting, comprising a carrier current transmission system connected to the light fitting. The transmission system includes a transmitter module with a comparator circuit for measuring the angle of phase shift between the voltage across the terminals of the light fitting (17, 18, 19, 20) and the current flowing through said light fitting (17, 18, 19, 20), said angle of phase shift being transmitted out by the carrier current transmission system.
