The method proposed for assembling and attaching plastic cards, which have an identification mark, and printed card-carriers associated with the cards comprises the following steps: a card (106) is brought into position; the identification mark on the card is detected; a print-instruction number is allocated to the card (106); data are read out from a database (DB) using the identification mark; the data read out from the database (DB) and the print-instruction number are printed on a card-carrier; the print-instruction number on the card-carrier is detected before the card (106) is attached to the card-carrier; the print-instruction number from the card (106) which is about to be attached to the card-carrier is checked to determine whether it matches that from the card-carrier; if the print-instruction number from the card (106) and that from the card-carrier agree, the card (106) and card-carrier are assembled and attached to each other.
