A method of concurrently receiving and transmitting multiple telephone signals between a first location and a second location over a single twisted pair, said method comprising:
at said first location: receiving a first digital signal from said second location over said single twisted pair; converting said first digital signal into a first higher-rate binary signal; converting said first higher-rate binary signal into "n" analog telephone signals, where "n" is greater than 1; converting "m" analog telephone signals into a second higher-rate binary signal, where "m" is greater than 1; converting said second higher-rate binary signal into a second digital signal; transmitting said second digital signal over said single twisted pair to said second location; and wherein said first and second digital signals are selected from the group consisting of 2B1Q signals and 4B3T signals.
