Respective pixels aligned in the direction of any scanning line selectably applied with a scanning signal are caused to change their optical properties alternately for every juxtaposed pixels; or in a plurality of pixels defined in a plurality of areas surrounded by a plurality of signal lines and a plurality of scanning lines, respective pixels which are juxtaposed in the direction of the scanning line are arranged to form a storage capacitance respectively between its pixel electrode (105) and a common line (104) or scanning line corresponding thereto which is different between juxtaposed pixels.
