The invention relates to a protected switch (1) with a housing (6) and a rotatable control grip (3) securable against switching on by at least one padlock. A cover (2) large enough to cover the control grip (3) and lockable by means of the padlock(s) is foldably fitted to the housing (6). In the cover (2) there is a recess (22) into which the control grip (3) can be received. The recess (22) can be set to its off position in accordance with the position of the control grip (3) with the contacts of the protected switch (1) fully open and the control grip (3) can be received into the recess (22) in the cover (2) only in its off position, and the cover (2) can be moved into the closed position, where it can be locked by means of the padlock(s) only with the control grip in the off position.
