There is provided a cationic organic peroxyacid having general formula (I), wherein R1 is an optionally substituted, linear or branched, C8-C12 alkyl or alkenyl group; R2 and R3 are each a methyl group; R4 is an optionally substituted, linear or branched, C3-C5 alkyl or alkenyl group; p is 0 or 1; z is an integer selected from 0-3; y is an integer selected from 0-5; w is 0 or 1; and X is a counter anion. This peroxyacid was found to have good bleaching performance without showing incompatibility with anionic surfactants.
