The invention concerns the external connection of a voltage regulator in a motor vehicle power supply, the power input (2) of the voltage regulator (1) being connected via a dual diode (7, 10) both to the main line (6), which is connected to the positive pole of the battery, and to an auxiliary line (9) which is connected to the positive pole of the vehicle power supply network by means of an ignition switch. The auxiliary line (9) is connected to a buffer capacitor (12). In the event of a voltage collapse on the main line (6), the power input is fed via the auxiliary line or by means of a current flowing from the buffer capacitor (12). In the event of a voltage collapse on the auxiliary line, the signal input (4) is fed via the buffer capacitor (12) which is dimensioned to buffer the power input (2).
