A device (28) for prostate treatment is inserted into a prostatic portion (10A) of an urethra (10) and connected to an energy source (37). Energy is delivered to the prostate (14) from the device (28). The amount of energy emitted to prostatic tissue adjacent to a bladder (12) is greater than that emitted to prostatic tissue distant from the bladder (12).
