The anode and cathode are separated from each other by means of a partition wall and are electroconductively connected to the respective allocated rear wall of the housing. The aim of the invention is to provide a solution to prevent the formation of foam using the simplest means possible. This is achieved by providing the housing (3,4) of each electrolysis cell with hydrophobic fittings (12) in at least one of the halves of the housing defined by the partition wall (6).
