A bearing subassembly includes an improved arrangement for securing the bearing subassembly to a shaft (12). An adjusting nut (20) is axially locked to a bearing inner ring (16) by sliding the adjusting nut (20) over the inner ring (16) so that a groove (54) in the adjusting nut (20) and recesses, for example, pockets (50), on the inner ring (16) align. Securement elements, for example, balls (22), are inserted into the groove (54) and seated in the recesses (50) through a bore (60) from the outer diameter of the adjusting nut (20) to the groove (54). The inner ring (16) is rotated to allow the securement elements (22) to fall into the recesses (50) and are enclosed between the groove (54) and recesses (50) by inserting, for example, a set screw (62) after the securement elements (22) are loaded. The securement arrangement then prevents the bearing subassembly adjusting nut (20) and inner (16) ring from separating.
