A compound shown by the general formula [1]:
(wherein, R 1 and R 2 are each independently a hydrogen atom, a lower alkyl group or a cyano group, and
is an optionally substituted heterocyclic compound);
or a salt thereof, a polymerization initiator comprising the compound or the salt thereof, and a method for polymerizing an α, β -ethylenically unsaturated monomer, wherein the compound or the salt thereof is used as a polymerization initiator.
