The invention relates to a paintbox (1) comprising exchangeable paint dishes (6). A holding rail (4) which engages with a groove (17) that is configured on the lower side of a protruding edge (15) of the paint dishes (6) and is open towards the bottom is mounted on the bottom of the paintbox (1) and forms a pivot bearing having a swivelling axis that is parallel in relation to the bottom (2) of the box. The groove (17) has a cross-section which enlarges towards the bottom and the paint dishes (6) loosely rest on the holding rail (4). Moreover, holding elements (7, 8) are provided on the side facing the paint dishes (6), whereby said side pertains to the holding rail (4). Said elements extend in the vertical direction from the bottom (2) of the box. The individual paint dishes (6) can be held in a non-positive manner resting on the bottom (2) of the paintbox by means of said holding elements. A pressure clip (16) is arranged on the protruding edge (15) of the paint dishes (6) respectively. Said clip is located on the side facing away from the paint dishes (6), whereby said side pertains to the holding rail (4). A paint dish (6) can be pivoted around the swivelling axis and can be detached from the holding elements (7 or 8) by pressing down the pressure clip (16) of said paint dish.
