A dredge cutterhead has a plurality of helical arms (32) interconnecting a hub (28) and a ring (30). Each of the arms (32) has a front leading edge (40) for attachment of cutting teeth (34). In one aspect, each of the arms (32) has a trough (44) portion, and the arm (32) is shaped such that dredged material is directed toward the ring (30) along the center of the trough portion (44). In another aspect, the ring (30) of the cutterhead defines an annular channel (66) for receiving loosened material.
